Ingredients:

1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 1/4 cups rolled oats
1 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups mincemeat
1 medium orange, unpeeled, finely ground
1 egg yolk, well beaten
2 TBS water

Directions:

  • Combine nuts, rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, white granulated sugar and salt, mix well.
  • Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture is consistency of coarse crumbs. Spread half of mixture in a well greased 9×9x2 inch pan.
  • Combine mincemeat and ground orange, spread over the crumbs. Top with remaining crumb mixture, pressing down well.
  • Blend beaten egg yolk with water; spoon over crumb mixture.
  • Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes.
  • Cool in pan. Cut in squares.

Yield: Makes 16 squares, each 2 1/4″ in size
